Choice Gas Programs
In a deregulated market, customers can choose a competitive natural gas supplier—as opposed to one company supplying gas to everyone. In your new area, you'll have the ability to choose the supplier and rate plan that works best for your needs and budget. Let the experts at CenterPoint Energy Services make the process easy by helping you find the natural gas rate plan that is right for you.

Steps to choosing your a natural gas supplier during your move

01

Call your utility

Before you move into your new residence, make it one of your first priorities to contact the natural gas utility in your area. Every utility may have different inspection and installation procedures before your service can begin. CenterPoint Energy Services recommends that you call your utility at least seven days in advance to ensure that your residence will be equipped with utility service when you are ready for the service to begin.

02

Establish your utility account

Many utility companies let customers sign up for service by phone or online. Keep in mind that you’ll likely need to provide your utility with information including your name, driver’s license information, service address, phone number, social security number and, in some cases, your employment information. When you move, don’t forget to call your existing utility company to terminate your gas (or any) service at your present address. Most companies will use an estimate based on your previous usage to determine the final bill.

03

Then sign up with CenterPoint Energy Services

Once you have a utility account number and have received your first bill from your utility, you can sign up with CenterPoint Energy Services. Choose our predictable fixed rate and have peace of mind knowing the rate you pay for natural gas won't change no matter how much the market price of natural gas might fluctuate.

04

In case of emergency

Leave immediately on foot and go directly to a safe location, then call both your gas utility company and 911. Alert your neighbors, warn others to stay away from the leak, and never try to repair a natural gas leak yourself.
